What mindfulness actually is
No lotus posture required, no thoughts to banish, no special state to achieve.
- Attention wanders constantly; mindfulness is the noticing and the returning, repeated patiently.
- You are not trying to feel calm — calm is a side effect, not the exercise.
- The skill transfers: the same "notice, don’t obey" muscle works on cravings, anger spirals, and 3 a.m. rumination.
- Judging your practice ("I’m bad at this") is just another thought to notice and return from.
