What starts a Rahu mahadasha
Your starting point is set by the nakshatra the Moon occupied at birth. Rahu lords Ardra, Swati, Shatabhisha, so a Moon in any of those three begins life in Rahu mahadasha — usually part-way through it, since only the unspent balance at birth is counted.
